First and foremost we are a
Target Archery Club although some of us do shoot Clout, Flight and Field
archery but the club does not have facilities for these. The Club
was started in 19?? with ?? members and now we have 48 members divided
between 25 in the Senior Section and 23 in the Junior section.
Although most members shoot compound bows at the moment we have a growing
number of archers
shooting recurve but unfortunately we have none shooting longbow or
barebow on a regular basis.
We are very active on the competition
scene, not only holding our own indoor competition in November but also
travelling extensively but predominately throughout Scotland for both the
outdoor and indoor season. Some members shoot nationally and
internationally, John Murray shooting for Great Britain ?????, Chris
McWhinny shooting for Scotland in Junior competitions
whilst Wilson Ross has shoot for Scotland in Senior competitions.
Heather Urquhart has won the British Ladies Compound Clout Championships
and three classes at the British Flight Championships. Gordon Donald
has won the Novice award at the Scottish Outdoor Championships shooting recurve.
Loreburn Archers realise that the lifeblood
of Archery is through new archers joining the sport and actively encourage
new members, especially juniors, and at the start of the indoor season
hold at ?? week session for people wanting to take up the sport.
Archery is a sport that is open to all irrespective of abilities and we
currently have two members with disabilities. It is also a sport
where age is not so important, Heather Urquhart taking up Archery in her
late fifties and Gordon Donald is in his mid forties??.
Not only do we have our own Level 1 Coach
in Ronnie Sneddon but also members of the club have partaken in Scottish Squad
Training where there is help from National, International and Olympic
standard Archers.
Loreburn Archers also do a number of 'Come
and Tries' at local Gala days during the summer season which introduce Archery to a wider
audience as well as raising much needed funds for the club. |

|
During the summer, from April to
September, we shoot on the playing fields at the Crichton on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings, starting at 7pm
until dark. |

During the winter, from October to March, we shoot
indoors at St Joseph's School Games Hall on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. |

If an Archer shoots at a GNAS record status tournament then the
archer must adhere to the GNAS dress code. The detailed code may be found
in rule 307 of the Rules of Shooting published by GNAS. In essence the
archer must wear plain green or white trousers/shorts/skirt and top. An
archer may also wear the registered club colours. For Loreburn archers
these are:- |
| Polo / T shirt |
Sweatshirt / Jumper |
Jacket / Fleece / Bodywarmers |
Lower Garments |
| Sky blue with club badge and archer's name on front |
Sky blue with club badge and archer's name on front |
Royal blue with 'Loreburn Archers' in green on back |
Not yet specified therefore must be
green or white |
|
|
Judges, at some competitions, are becoming more strict with enforcing this
rule and archers have been prevented from shooting at a tournament as a result
of a violation. |
